The following accessible home resources are organizations or companies that offer various assistance for the disabled home buyer or owner, such as, assisting in locating, building or modifying accessible homes. Good luck in your search!


National

New Sign America Supports You: Homes for Disabled Troops offers a comprehensive resource list of foundations and other organizations that offer homes or assistance for homes for disabled veterans.

Home Access Program, an initiative started by Handi-Ramp, a company that has been manufacturing handicap accessible ramps since 1958, assists individuals in finding an accessible home or modifying an already existing one. Via their website you can find realtors and consultants across the United States who are willing and able to assist in locating accessible homes.

Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization committed to helping the men and women of our armed forces who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. They assist severely injured Servicemen and Women and their immediate families by building specially adapted homes or adapting an existing home for handicapped accessibility. U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers a listing of homes for sale on the "Buying a home" section of the site or try Homes for sale where several federal agencies have properties to sell, both single family and multifamily homes. HUD also explains how you can buy a home under these varying agencies. For instance, to buy a HUD home you must contact a real estate broker in your area who is authorized to sell a HUD home (most are.) Your broker will submit the bid for you.


State Listings


California

Stephen Beard, of Keller Williams Realty, specializes in providing real estate services for people with physical challenges. As a man with Cerebral Palsy, he has first-hand experience dealing with some of the limitations and fears that make the home buying process stressful for people with physical challenges. He knows what makes homes accessible and where to find accessible homes in the Bay area. Utah

New Sign Accessible Homes Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes the development of accessible homes for people with disabilities. They also educate home builders and the public on the need for accessible housing, specify design criteria for accessible homes, list accessible homes for sale or rent, (Rentals are in Utah, homes for sale are throughout the U.S., offer referrals to other agencies as needed, and plan to assist low income persons with disabilities to have a home to meet their needs.
