Art Deadlines List offers a monthly newsletter (via email or paper) with 600-900 announcements (every month!) listing art contests - competitions, art scholarships & grants, juried exhibitions, art jobs & internships, call for entries/proposals/papers, writing & photo contests, residencies, design & architecture competitions, auditions, casting calls, fellowships, festivals, funding, and other opportunities (including some that take place on the web) for artists, art educators and art students of all ages. New Sign Conections Newsletter Family Caregiver Alliance's Connections newsletter focuses on issues and information important to family caregivers. The newsletter regularly covers tips, articles, and helpful advice that can assist families with the numerous daily care tasks that caregiving for loved ones presents - including the often overlooked “caring for yourself.” While much of the content can prove helpful to caregivers nationwide, the events included are local to the six-county region of FCA’s Bay Area Caregiver Resource Center. Quest Magazine is a publication of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). This bimonthly national magazine contains news and features on all aspects of living with a neuromuscular disease, along with updates on the latest findings in the field. Featured articles can be found online.

Housing First: A Special Report was a yearlong reporting project of NPR News exploring the housing dilemmas of Americans with special needs and how lack of housing can stymie their efforts to join mainstream society. They developed a wonderful collection of articles focusing on a wide array of issues and individual circumstances. They also offer a synopsis of the housing needs of key U.S. groups including people with mental illness, people with developmental disabilities and people with physical disabilities, among others. Vermont Center for Independence produces a quarterly newsletter, Access Ability. This newsletter contains articles on local and federal legislation, employment, ADA, local news, and more. Independent Living Wisconsin

Independence First has a monthly newsletter Advocacy Action News and a quarterly publication Breaking Away that are free of charge to Wisconsin residents and available on-line. Both of these publications contain news from around Wisconsin on issues concerning the disabled. Many other newsletters, such as Assistive Technology News, Housing Services News, and Interpreter Coordination Service News are also available on-line.


Legislation and Advocacy

Commission on Disability Rights offers news on disability legislation and concerns from the American Bar Association (ABA). This is a great reporter if you wish to keep up-to-date on disability legislation. Scroll down to get the latest news.

Disability Rights Section News, a free publication of the Department of Justice, is a bi-monthly update about the Civil Rights Division's activities in the area of disability rights. The Division enforces laws prohibiting discrimination based on disability in employment, housing, access to businesses serving the public, access to government programs and services including voting and public transportation, and unconstitutional conditions in institutions of confinement. National Council on Disability (NCD) Newsroom provides information updates on legislation concerning disability issues. New Sign Wisconsin Legislative Notifications Website is offered by the Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau for citizens of Wisconsin where one can receive daily or weekly e-mails when certain specified legislative activity such as bills being introduced, specific committee activity or discussions of particular topics. If you do not get the form, select notifications and then sign up on this site to receive e-mails to follow legislative activity in the Wisconsin Legislature.


Recreation

American Horticultural Therapy Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization concerned with the promotion and development of Horticultural Therapy programming and is a champion of barrier-free, therapeutic gardens that enable everyone to work, learn, and relax in the garden. This organization is for Horticultural therapists who are skilled at creating garden spaces that accommodate people with a wide range of abilities. People with physical or mental disabilities benefit from gardening experiences as part of AHTA programs, and they learn skills, adaptations, and gardening methods that allow for continued participation at home. The American Horticultural Therapy Association has helped horticultural therapy gain acceptance as a unique and dynamic human service program. AHTA publishes an annual journal: The Journal of Therapeutic Horticulture. AHTA membership is necessary to be able to access the annual issue. The fee for membership is on the pricey side, and reflects the professional goal of the journal.
