NHU Community Forum Volunteer

We invite you to volunteer your time and talents in support of your disability community. We are seeking volunteers both locally from the Greater Milwaukee area and from throughout the United States.

Volunteer Position Available:

NHU Community Forum Volunteer

We have developed a new, New Horizons Un-Limited Community Forum with Topic Discussion Boards for our website and could use your help.

Start Date: Immediately

Hours: Flexible

Qualifications and Experiences required: People with disabilities, their families or caregivers or other people interested in disability issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• We are looking for volunteers to visit our website and try the NHU Community Forum, then send us any comments or suggestions one may have about the use of this new resource.
• If you use adaptive technology to use your computer, we would like to hear how the areas performed with your adaptive devices or software. Do you have access to a computer and the Internet on a regular basis? Do you use adaptive technology to use your computer? Fill out our on-line Poll on using Adaptive Equipment. You must register on the Forum to submit the poll.

About the NHU Community Forum:

We are New Horizons Un-Limited, a non-profit organization for people with disabilities. We provide access to information for people with disabilities through our website on the Internet. We believe communication as being the foremost way in which people with disabilities can share their experiences and help each other toward finding opportunities that will lessen their isolation and breakdown the barriers that inhibit them from full participation in their communities. With this vision in mind we have created a new New Horizons Community Forum, which consists of a comprehensive group of topic discussion boards for people with disabilities, their families, caregivers and others involved with disability issues within our community to share their knowledge and experiences.

• These NHU Community Topic Discussion Boards are a forum for questions, thoughts, and ideas.
• They are designed to be a virtual place where you can have a "conversation" with others.
• Your message will be accessible, open and a direct exchange with other persons. You can begin a discussion or direct a question to the NHU Community.
• NHU Community Forum has the following topic discussion boards: General, Friendship, Share Your Experiences/Inspiration, Family Support Group/Life Planning, Share Your Knowledge, Information and Resources, Tell Us What You Think!, News and Events, Caregiver and Classifieds.

Instructions: Please consider assisting us in reviewing our NHU Community Forum for our entire community! If you agree to do so, please fill out the volunteer application at http://www.new-horizons.org/volapp.html and submit it to us. We will send you instructions for testing our Forum. It is easy and you will be helping others!

To use the NHU Community Forum:

• Visit the Welcome Pages of the NHU Community Forum
• Join our NHU Community Forum and contribute to Share YOUR Knowledge or Share YOUR Experiences.
• One way to help us serve you better is to review our NHU Community Forum and fill out our Survey about the NHU Community Forum and Topic Discussion Boards.
• Identify current disability issues in Legislation on Share YOUR Knowledge or Tell Us What You Think!
• Identify newsletters that people should receive to stay current with disability issues under Tell Us What YOU Think.
• Identify disability outreach events and opportunities in News and Events.
• Identify new resources for people with disabilities under Share YOUR Knowledge.
