New Jersey

New Sign Montgomery Recreation Department of Montgomery Township, New Jersey, has a cooperative agreement with the Somerset County Park Commission’s Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Department to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for children and adults who have a developmental disability. By providing a variety of social, cultural, artistic, culinary, sports, fitness, community outings, horticulture, and special events throughout the year, individuals can recreate year round. Programs are adapted to meet the participants’ needs. The TR department also conducts a summer camp for children who have a learning disability or Asperger Syndrome. Camp Okee Sunokee helps the children develop social and recreation skills, but helps them develop their academic and functional skills as well, leading to successful inclusion in school and community activities.
