International and National

ILRU Research and Training Center on Independent Living sponsored by the NIDRR and part of its National Technical Assistance Project for Independent Living offers a directory of 350 programs throughout the United States for $8.50. Ask the ILRU to search for you, using their database of Independent Living Programs. Contact ILRU at: 2323 South Shephard, Suite 1000, Houston, Texas 77019, (713)520-0232(V) or (713)520-5136 (TDD).

Independent Living website offers a variety of resources relating to independent living including training materials, technical assistance and information on personal assistance, advocacy, access, legislation and peer support. Their website also features links to various organizations, and a personal assistant locator.

Internet Resources for Special Children (IRSC) has a centers for independent living section that offers listings of CIL's in each state and other parts of the world, as well as disability links, news and more.

June Isaacson Kailes, Disability Policy Consultant offers an independent living section that contains links to CIL's by state, state associations, general information and more.

Open Your World - Independent Living offers an excellent resource page relating to achieving independence. Particularly, they offer self-assessment tools, links to independent living centers throughout the United States, and links to other helpful associations and organizations.
