December 12, 2000 - Phoenix, Arizona - The East Valley Transition Team (EVTT) presents a transportation training session

The East Valley Transition Team (EVTT) is providing a training on Phoenix's transit system. The training session will be conducted by Gary Bretz, Operations Coordinator for the Regional Public Transportation Authority. The session will be held on December 12, 2000 at 3:00 to 5:00PM at the Escalante Center, 2150 E. Orange, Tempe, Arizona. The training is to assist individuals with disabilities in increasing their independent living skills. For more information call Sharon Gilbert at 480-345-3776.


December, 2000 - Phoenix, Arizona - 16th Annual "Hang a Wreath for United Cerebral Palsy (UCP)"

United Cerebral Palsy's annual hang a wreath gives individuals a chance to give during the holiday season. Make a one dollar donation at Circle K stores in exchange for recognition on a paper holiday wreath supplied by Miller Brewing Company. Proceeds benefit UCP, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the independence of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. You can participate in this event now until December 31, 2000.


November 4, 2000 - Phoenix, Arizona - Town meeting on hard of hearing issues

Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing announces a Town Hall meeting on hard of hearing issues is open to the public and will be held at the Best Western Airport Inn, 2425 S. 24th St. Phoenix, Arizona, Saturday, November 4, 2000 at 8:30 a.m. Topic to be discussed include issues and needs of the hard of hearing, prioritizing issues, strategies to meet the priorities, and more. Persons with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations such as alternative formats or assistance with physical accessibility by contacting the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at (602) 542-3323 or (800) 352-8161.


November 4, 2000 - Tucson, Arizona - Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona presents an "Epilepsy Update"

Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona will hold the "Epilepsy Update" seminar at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona on November 4, 2000. The seminar will include information on new medications and surgical treatments. Other topics will include women and epilepsy and the genetics and psychosocial issues affecting those with epilepsy. November, 2000 - Arizona - ADA Employment Hotline now available

The Arizona Center for Disability Law presents ADA Employment Hotline. An attorney will be available by telephone to provide information regarding disability related employment discrimination issues. The hotline is available on Tuesday's 1:00p.m. - 5:00p.m. and Thursday's 9:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. by calling (800) 922-1447 Statewide or in Tucson call (520) 327-9547.


October, 2000 - Arizona - CyberCIL's "doors" are now open

CyberCIL is the newest center for independent living in Arizona. However, it doesn't literally have "doors" because it is located in cyberspace. It is the first virtual CIL in the country. They offer information referrals, skills training, peer counseling, advocacy and more. Check it out!


September 22, 2000 - Oakland, California - Pacific Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center (Pacific DBTAC) presents "An Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Update with Federal Enforcement Agencies"

Pacific Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center (Pacific DBTAC) offers assistance for the states of California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii. The seminar will include John Wodatch of the U.S. Department of Justice and Peggy Mastrioani from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. It takes place at the Oakland Marriott, 1001 Broadway, Oakland, California. It begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 5:00 PM. To register or for more information call 1-800-949-4232.
