2005 - New Vermont Medicaid program to deliver care at home

Elderly and disabled Vermont residents now have more options available to help them remain in their homes and communities rather than be placed in nursing homes. The Vermont Long Term Care Plan, will establish a system to evaluate the appropriate type of care and will expand community-based services to 950 older and disabled individuals who are at risk of institutionalization. This program will provide important evidence on how to end the institutional bias in Medicaid, to allow people with a disability to live in the community when they prefer to do so, without increasing Medicaid costs.
