National

CCD Housing Task Force works with Congress and the Department of Housing and Urban Development(HUD) to increase access to decent, safe and affordable housing for people with disabilities to protect the rights guaranteed under the Fair Housing Act. The CCD Housing Task Force also works collaboratively with the Technical Assistance Collaborative (TAC) to produce Opening Doors, a housing initiative for the disability community.

National Fair Housing Advocate offers current news and headlines concerning fair housing issues. They offer legal research tools, such as a case database and statutory material. Also, they have other resources including an event calendar, agency finder, job listings, helpful links and a discussion room.

Opening Doors is a home page sponsored by The Arc, formerly the Association for Retarded Citizens of the United States. The page includes a recommendation for a federal policy to address the housing needs of people with disabilities. The site contains information on housing policy, legislation, government housing agencies, and more. Also, it includes housing statistics and funding information.

Technical Assistance Collaborative, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides state-of-the-art technical assistance and training to housing and human service organizations so that they may achieve positive outcomes in their work on behalf of people who are disadvantaged and/or disabled. In particular, the Housing Center for People with Disabilities "is a TAC program of technical assistance, training, and knowledge dissemination on the affordable housing issues that are critically important to people with disabilities, their families, housing advocates, and service providers. The goals of the Housing Center for People with Disabilities will be to create and strengthen the capacity of the disability community to influence state and local affordable housing policies and practices as well as to increase access by people with disabilities to subsidized and affordable rental and homeownership resources." Pennsylvania

New Sign Tenants Action Group of Philadelphia addresses tenant problems through a self-help approach which combines counseling, education, organizing and advocacy. Direct services include, a Tenant Landlord Hotline, Tenants Rights Workshops, Housing Counseling, Homelessness Prevention Grants, Fair Housing Counseling, Transitional Housing for Homeless Families, and Housing for People with Special Needs, among others. Washington

Tenants Union "is a non-profit, membership-based organization that has been providing information to Washington State tenants and fighting for stronger tenants' rights since 1976." Their website features many helpful informational online brochures covering a wide variety of issues relating to the rental of an apartment. They also offer personal consultation through their Tenants Union Hotline, which can be accessed by calling (206) 723-0500 or (206) 723-0523 (TDD) and to individuals that schedule an appointment. Wisconsin

Equal Access for Affordable Housing (EAAH) is a newly formed advocacy group in Kenosha county. The mission of the EAAH is to increase housing opportunities for people with disabilities. For more information, contact (414) 597-9547 or (414) 553-1044.

Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association (MYLA) provides callers free legal information regarding landlord/tenant law in the State of Wisconsin. Fourteen pre-recorded topics such as "Return of security deposits," "Evictions," "Promises to repair," are available 24 hours per day at (414)272-MYLA (Voice). An automated help-line informs callers where they can find additional help where volunteer attorneys staff the phone on Tuesday evenings between 5:00-7:00PM.
