This legislation provides children of Vietnam veterans who were born with spina bifida with a montly allowance, Lifetime Health Care Benefits and Vocational and Rehabilitation Training.
A service of the National Federation of the Blind allows people who are blind the access to newspapers through the use of their telephones. Allow them 2 weeks to process your registration. You will be issued an identification number and a security code. This bill of the 105th Congress H.R.2020 of 1997 is a bill to amend title XIX of the Social Security Act (Medicaid) to provide for coverage of community attendant services under the Medicaid program.
The purpose of the bill is to provide Medicaid coverage of qualified community-based attendant services for any individual entitled to a nursing facility or intermediate care facility services. The Federal Communications Commission has revised the video programming closed captioning rules. This will mandate that broadcasters provide 100 percent captioning of new, non-exempt programming by January 1, 2006. See the new rules at FCC Disabilities Issues Task Force
National Council on Disability in its October 1998 Bulletin announces Congress could not reach agreement on the Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1998. Congress did pass legislation to require the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of the Interior to study how to improve access for persons with disabilities to outdoor recreational opportunities. The Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board and the Department of Transportation have new regulations that will require bus lines such as Greyhound to purchase only accessible buses and to be completely accessible by 2012. An aggreement of the Roosevelt family, the FDR memorial designer, the disability community, and the U.S. Park Service plans to add an outdoor room at the main entrance to the FDR memorial which shall include a bronze, human scale statue of FDR sitting in the small wheelchair he invented. "This agreement will serve as both a tribute to a true American hero who led our nation through its darkest days and as a reminder that disability is not a barrier to achievement," Vice President Gore said.

The White House Office of the Press Secretary released an Executive Order regarding the establishment of the National Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities. The president established the task force to create national policy that allows adults with disabilities to gain employment at a similar rate of those without disabilities. The Executive Order included various objectives and specific activities to be accomplished by the task force. The Presidential Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities web site offers facts, the order itself, members of the task force, and details of the opening meeting on April 22, 1998.
