New Horizons Un-Limited Inc.Four hundred athletes from across the United States will roll into Columbus, Ohio, August 11-13, 2005 for the 29th Annual National Wheelchair Softball Tournament. The 2005 Tournament is being hosted by the Columbus Pioneers, the local Wheelchair Softball team. The tournament will be held at two sites, Rhodes Park, one of the few wheelchair accessible multi-recreational facilities in the United States and Cooper Stadium, home of the Columbus Clippers. The Ohio Olmstead Task Force, in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will be hosting Pathways to Employment on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 1, 2 and 3, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. Conference sessions will focus on such topics as Person-centered Career Planning and Employment Barriers and Issues, among others. The conference will also offer more than 40 workshops that will cover such topics as work incentives and benefits, job accommodations, assistive technology, home site employment, Medicaid buy-in, and much more. The 3-day conference registration fee is $125 per person. Scholarships are available to eligible people with disabilities and their family members. The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council will be hosting "Partners in Policymaking," a new leadership training program in which persons with developmental disabilities and their families will learn how to initiate change. More specifically, participants will learn how to: advocate for needed services, draft and deliver testimony for legislative hearings, and discuss issues with public officials. The program, which will be held at The Ability Center in Sylvania, Ohio, is free and open to residents of Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Fulton, Henry, Defiance and Williams counties.
