November 5-6, 2004 - Columbus, Ohio - 4th Annual Ohio Adult Sibling Conference

Ohio SIBS, a support organization for adult siblings of those with disabilities will be hosting their 4th Annual Ohio Sibling Conference on Friday and Saturday, November 5-6, 2004 at the Marriott Airport Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. This unique gathering is unlike anything else in the United States. At the conference adult brothers and sisters of people with MR/DD gather together to hear directly from MR/DD professionals, educators, politicians and other Adult Siblings. The conference is an opportunity to share information, ideas and family experiences. the conference registration fee is $75.00. November 2-3, 2004 - Mansfield, Ohio - Micro Enterprise (Small Business) Workshop

With self-determination you, as a person with a disability, can start your own successful business. To help you on this path, the Center for Self-Determination will be hosting a two-day workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 2 and 3, 2004 at the Mid Ohio Educational Services Center in Mansfield, Ohio. The workshop will be lead by nationally recognized experts and will cover such issues as:

  • Opportunities and barriers for small business ownership
  • Building and implementing a business plan
  • Using individual budgets and public resources as part of a business plan
  • Roles of direct care staff and family as supports for the business

    October 16-17, 2004 - Cleveland, Ohio - People Say I'm Crazy Film Debut

    The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), located at 1141 East Boulevard in Cleveland, will be showing the film People Say I'm Crazy on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 5:45 pm and Sunday, October 17, 2004 at 9:30 pm. The film, a documentary of the filmakers own struggle with schizophrenia, offers a rare look at mental illness from the inside. Ten years ago, after his first psychotic break in college, he started filming himself to let the world know what it's like to live with labels such as "psychotic," "schizophrenic" and "severely disabled."     September 15, 2004 - Columbus, Ohio - Free Medicaid Buy-in Workshop

    Are you interested in returning to the workforce but fear the loss of Medicaid eligibility? If so, be certain to attend the Mobile Center for Independent Living workshop covering the issue of Medicaid Buy-In on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the MOBILE offices in Columbus.     July 26, 2004 - Toledo, Ohio - ADA Zoo Day

    The Ability Center will be hosting their annual ADA Zoo Day at the Toledo Zoo on Monday, July 26, 2004. Aside from enjoying the sights and sounds of the zoo, visitors will also have an opportunity to stop and chat with various disability service providers.     May 27, 2004 - Sandusky, Ohio - The Arc of Ohio Day at Cedar Point

    Wednesday May 27, 2004 is the date for this year's "The Arc's Company Picnic" at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Point is offering 2000 free admission tickets and lunches and unlimited half-price admissions and discounted lunches for individuals affiliated with The Arc of Ohio.     February 17-18, 2004 - Columbus, Ohio - Employment Outcome Summit

    An Employment Outcome Summit will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 17-18, 2004, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 4900 Sinclair Road in Columbus, Ohio. The workshop, aimed at encouraging business start-ups and community employment, will include presentations by individuals who have started their own businesses and secured community employment with the help of a commissioned agent. Individuals and their support teams will receive hands on training and support and will leave the workshop with a draft business plan. Business plans are eligible for start up grants up to $5,000. Cost for the two-day workshop is $40 for individuals with disabilities and their families and $80 for professionals.
