April 14-15, 2010 - Madison, Wisconsin - Advocacy Camp teaches advocacy skills to people with disabilitiesThe Wisconsin Council on Children and Families (WCCF) will host its Advocacy Camp 2010 on Wednesday, April 14 and Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Avenue (3 blocks from the State Capitol) in Madison, WI.
This interactive, hands-on, advocacy training will include numerous simulations, role-plays, small group work and presentations by advocacy experts. You will also have an opportunity to connect with peers from around the state, have lots of time for networking, learn valuable skills, have time for questions and discussion, and leave with new confidence, tips and connections to enhance your advocacy efforts. The event will conclude with an opporunity to put your new-found skills to work with a visit to your state senator and representative!

April 24, 2010 - Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Free Transition Workshop for youth with disabilitiesThe Southeast Regional Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Social Work Program, and the Transition Planning Committee will be sponsoring a Transition workshop for youth with disabilities and their families on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Auditorium, 9000 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Wauwatosa, WI 53226. The workshop will review services of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC); provide an overview of publicly funded long term supports; and will explain eligibility criteria and the enrollment process. The Milwaukee Center for Independence will be hosting Kaleidoscope, a nine-week Day Camp feturing themed activities for children with a disability and those who need skilled nursing care. Each week will feature indoor and outdoor activities and field trips.
Themes include “Birds, Bugs and Butterflies; Under the Big Top, featuring an outing to Milwaukee's Great Circus Parade; Down on the Farm; and Dig Em Dinosaurs. The 2009 summer session begins June 22nd and goes through August 21st. Registration for the full nine-week program is required.

Honoring “Hammerin' Hank,†whose major league career started with the Milwaukee Braves, the Hank Aaron State Trail covers seven miles through the Menomonee Valley, linking Lake Michigan to Miller Park and is completely paved and accessible.
In addition to providing recreational and educational opportunities, the trail serves as a commuting corridor between downtown Milwaukee and the western side of the city. Over the next few years, the trail will be extended 5 ½ miles via a former railway corridor beginning near Miller Park and connect to the oak leaf trail at the Milwaukee/Waukesha county line.
Come and explore this exciting accessible urban trail on Saturday, August 8, 2009, starting at 8:30AM for a 5 k run/walk. You may even meet Hank Aaron himself, as he is expected to attend. The starting of the event is at Miller Park (near Klement's Sausage Haus). The fee for individuals is $17.00 through 7/31/09 ($20 after 8/1; $22 on race day). For teams: $20 (additional covers cost of team logo on t-shirt). Team Logo cutoff is with a minimum of 8 entrants per team. 2008 awards featured Midwest Airline Tickets and autographed Green Bay Packer Football. All participants receive a t-shirt, goodie bag and beverages.

Running For Hope Run/Walk 5k(3.1 mile) will take place on May 16, 2009. To register on-line through March 12, 2009, please go to Register. The entry fees are as follows: Adults for Pre-Race is $17.00 with $20 the Day of the Race, Children (under 18), for Pre-Race will be $12 and the Day of the Race will be $15, and for Families Pre-Race the fee is $45 and on the Day of the Race will be $50.
Participants will receive the Running For Hope Package (t-shirt, race number, pins, map and RFH booklet) at registration, at the event. Registration starts 8:30-9:45am with the beginning of the 5k run at 10:00AM, the 3k walk starts at 10:03AM. The Celebration and Awards will be at 11:00AM and the end of the event will be at 11:30AM.
