November 2009 -National Family Caregivers Month
NFC Month is organized annually by the National Family Caregivers Association as a time each year to thank, support, educate and empower family caregivers. "This year we are encouraging people to speak up during National Family Caregivers Month, "said Suzanne Mintz, NFCA president and CEO. "One of the most important attributes of being an advocate for your loved one is the willingness and the ability to speak up and keep your eye on the ultimate goal, protecting not only the health and safety of your loved ones, but your own as well." Fall 2009 - National Alzheimer Association is hosting a Memory Walk with teams across the nation
National Alzheimer Association is hosting a Memory walk and their goal is 30,000 teams. Teams registered so far: 17,483. This fall, a nation will walk together to move us closer to a cure. Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness
and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it
calls on people of all ages to take action in the fight. Year-round, their participants are involved in efforts to help defeat this devastating disease. For more information about a walk in your hometown or to sign-up for a team captain kit go on the website link listed above.
August 24 - 29, 2009 - Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant 2010 - Rapid City, South Dakota
The Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant for 2010 will take place in August. The mission of Ms. Wheelchair America is to provide an opportunity for women of achievement who happen to be wheelchair users to successfully educate and advocate for the more than 52 million Americans living with disabilities. Unlike the traditional beauty pageants, Ms. Wheelchair America is not a contest to select the most attractive individual. It is instead a competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokesperson for individuals with disabilities. The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency from across the nation to the general public, the business community and the legislature.
May 7, 2009 - Webinar on Employment for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
The Alliance for Full Participation has recently launched a major initiative to improve the employment infrastructure, services and outcomes for people with developmental disabilities. The Alliance is building and will guide state teams that include people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, advocates, service providers, business organizations, state government officials, and other interested individuals to explore and transform the environment for employment. To support our state teams, and to bring awareness to the cause of increasing employment for people with developmental disabilities, The Alliance is hosting a series of quarterly webinars. The first of these webinars will be held Thursday, May 7 at 4:00 pm ET.

April - National Rebuilding Day
National Rebuilding Day is sponsored by Rebuilding Together, a leading national nonprofit group that works to preserve affordable homeownership by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners.
Affiliate groups from all parts of the country plan projects to celebrate Rebuilding Together's mission and to bring national attention to the plight of America’s low-income homeowners and the communities in which they live. March 28, 2009 - Across the Nation - Phil Keoghan of Amazing Race Rides Across America Announced a Cross-Country Ride for MS
Phil Keoghan of the television program from CBS's Amazing Race, recently announced a cross-country ride from Los Angeles to New York in support of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) movement. Read the official MS Society Press Release about Rides Across America presented by GNC Live Well.
Phil will be connecting with various Bike MS (a program of the MS Society) events on his way from coast to coast. There are 100 Bike MS events nationwide, so visit Bike MS to select one that will work for you as far as location, terrain, time of year or distance.

March 10-17, 2009 - Across the Nation - MS Awareness Week
For more information on how to move closer to a world without MS, visit the National MS Sociey's MS Awareness Week . MS chapters throughout the United States organize events this week to bring awareness for those living with MS. Some MS chapters such as the the one in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina organize an MS Service Day. On Saturday, March 7th, the Myrtle Beach MS Service Team which consists of a group of cadets from the Carolina Forest High School NJROTC (15-18 years of age) completed projects for people living with Multiple Sclerosis, in their community. The MS Service Teams are available to help with projects one Saturday each month, January-April, 2009 10:00AM – 5:00 PM. in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They complete tasks in and around their homes that people with MS are physically unable to do by themselves. The MS Service Day is now part of a national pilot program for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for volunteers and volunteer organizations to assist by completeing projects for individuals with MS in their communities. January 31, 2009 - New York City - Special Camp Fair
Presented by Resources for Children with Special Needs, Inc.
Parents and caregivers of children and teens with disabilities can plan ahead for summer with the wealth of information offered at the 24th annual FREE Special Camp Fair on Saturday, January 31, 2009. The event, which will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City, will feature representatives from 70 New York City day camps and sleepaway camps in the northeast. The Fair will also feature information on travel programs, remedial education programs, volunteer and job opportunities and early childhood programs. Spanish and sign language interpreters will be available.
Visitors to the Fair will receive a free copy of the Camps 2009 Directory. The Camps 2009 Directory is also available by sending a check for $25 plus $8.00 postage and handling to Resources for Children with Special Needs, Inc., Department PR1, 116 E. 16th Sreet, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10003.
