2006 - Phoenix, Arizona - Youth Action Council of Arizona seeking participants

Are you interested in meeting new people your age? Do you believe young adults should have a voice in matters that affect them? Are you interested in politics? If so, the Youth Action Council of Arizona is your group! You make the rules! You decide what to do! Learn how to self-advocate, meet your legislators, organize and participate in social activities, volunteer and just plain have a good time!

August 28, 2006 - Phoenix, Arizona - 7th Annual Spinal Cord Injury Educational Conference - Local Heroes

During their 7th Annual Conference on Monday, August 28, 2006, the Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association will be honoring local heroes who have inspired and made great contributions to their community. All people with Spinal Cord injuries, family members, personal assistants, health care professionals, service coordinators, case managers, and anyone interested in learning more about spinal cord injury are encouraged to attend. Conference registration is $79/$134 (if received before August 15th/if received after August 15th) for professionals and free/$55 for consumers (if pre-registered before August 15/if received after August 15). July 20, 2006 - Mesa, Arizona - The ADA: Learn Your Rights - Use it or lose it!

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the law that prohibits discrimination based on disability, will be turning 16 this July. ABIL is hosting a workshop that will help you better understand your rights under the ADA. You will learn how to advocate for yourself and learn what organization are out there to help you do so. The workshop, scheduled for Thursday July 20, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the ABIL Mesa office, 2150 S. Country Club, Suite 10, will be interactive, so come ready to have fun while you learn! February 8, 2006 - Phoenix, Arizona - 2006 Arizona Disabilities Expo

Plan to attend the Arizona Disabilities Expo on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza in downtown Phoenix. Activities include exhibits from 100+ organizations that offer products, services and networking opportunities, recreation and sports, support groups, advocacy organizations and much more. The Keynote speaker, Scott Hogsett, who will speak between noon and 1:00 p.m., has a C5-6 Spinal Cord Injury, plays wheelchair rugby for Team USA and the Phoenix Heat, and, most recently, was in the movie, Murderball, a documentary chronicling wheelchair (quad) rugby. February 1-2, 2006 - Phoenix, Arizona - Annual Legislative Advocacy and Awareness Days

The Arizona Disability Advocacy Coalition is sponsoring a Legislative Training Day on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Airport Marriott Hotel, 1101 North 44th Street. The event will start with sessions on how bills become law and how to plan a successful meeting with your Legislator. This training will be followed by Hors D’oeuvres and Dinner, during which you can network with other self-advocates and advocates. The event will conclude with a mock legislative session Hotel & travel scholarships are available! Call early to secure your scholarship. The training event will be followed by a Legislative Awareness Day on Thursday, February 2, 2006, 9:00am – 2:00pm, at the Arizona State Capitol – Senate Lawn, 1700 West Washington Street in Phoenix. Always loved the Theater? Curious as to how a performance is put together? If so, this event is for you! The Improbable Theatre Company (ITC), an arts and entertainment organization dedicated to disability advocacy, will be hosting a workshop on Saturday, January 28th. During this event you will learn more about the nuts and bolts of theatre. What goes in to choosing a play? Setting the stage? How do I learn lines? Stage left, stage right, down stage? What’s up with that? Stage presence? Voice? Movement? Do you want to be involved but are not sure if you're ready to be in front of an audience? Learn how to become involved without being on stage?
