June 4-5, 2004 - Bartlet Lake Marina - Enjoy a Day on the Lake

Water skiing, jet skiing and kayaking are among the many activities planned for Barrow Neurological Institute's Day on the Lake, a unique program that gives people with a physical disability or a neurological impairment the opportunity to get their feet wet with water sports. This year's event is scheduled for Friday, June 4th and Saturday, June 5th at the Bartlet Lake Marina. Day on the Lake is free to participants who qualify and register in advance (space is limited). Participants must be at least eight years old and have a qualifying condition. Participants must register for one of four time slots available. May 24, 2004 - Let's Keep Moving Summit

The Transit Regional Improvement Project, the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities and the Arizona Bridge to Independent Living will be co-hosting the Let's Keep Moving Summit on May 24th, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. until to 2:00 p.m. at ASU Downtown Phoenix, 502 E. Monroe Street, Rooms C 340-350. The summit is designed to educate individuals with disabilities, advocates, family members and friends, disability groups and groups representing seniors on the Maricopa Regional Transportation Plan that will be on the Nov. 2nd ballot - including expected improvements in public transit. It is important that you are informed so you can help get others to REGISTER and VOTE on this important issue that will extend the half cent sales tax for the next 20 years to improve regional transportation (Roads, Freeways, Buses, Dial-A-Ride, Light Rail). May 20, 2004 - Glendale, Arizona - TBI Rights and Resources: Tools for Success

The Arizona Center for Disability Law and the Arizona Governor's Council on Spinal and Head Injuries will be hosting TBI Rights and Resources: Tools for Success, a conference aimed at creating an enjoyable environment where all can learn from each other's experiences with Traumatic Brain Injury. Participants can explore the legal, educational and community resources available to individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI), their families and caregivers. You will also learn about your legal rights and how to advocate for them. The conference is open to people with TBI of all ages, their families and professionals. May 13, 2004 - Mesa, Arizona - Life Planning Workshop

ABIL will be hosting a life planning workshop for families including a person with a disability on Thursday, May 13, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m at the Sheraton Phoenix East in Grappa's Lounge. The Sheraton is located at 200 N. Centennial Way in Mesa, Arizona. The workshop will cover such topics as Wills and Trusts, Power of Attorney, Guardianship and Conservatorship and Maps and Government Services. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. January 20, 2004 - Disability Legislative Awareness Day

The annual Disability Legislative Awareness Day sponsored by the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities will be Tuesday, January 20, 2004. A legislative training sponsored by the Arizona Disability Advocacy Coalition will begin at 9 a.m. This event also offers an opportunity to discuss disability related public policy issues with your legislators, over lunch. It is up to you to invite your legislators to lunch. The event ends at 1:30 p.m., but you are encouraged to stay and meet with your legislators or go listen in on legislative hearings.
