November 14, 2003 - Phoenix, Arizona - City of Phoenix Housing Department Informational Workshop

City of Phoenix Housing Department provides and promotes diversified living environments and services for low-income families, seniors and people with disabilities by operating and leasing assisted and affordable housing. Eric Rojo, Housing Program Assistant for the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program, will discuss the Section 8 program. He will touch on the application process, wait-list criteria, eligibility requirements, and discuss other housing programs currently offered. If you are considered low-income, wish to live independently, and need help with locating affordable housing, then you don't want to miss this event. This free event will be held on Friday, November 14th, 2003 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at 1229 E. Washington Street in Phoenix.

October 24 - 25, 2003 - Gilbert, Arizona - Accessible Hot Air Balloon Rides

Easter Seals Arizona and ATC-National Express, the Valley's largest public transit contractor, will introduce Serena's Song, the world's first and only handicapped accessible hot air balloon, to the valley. The Serena's Song accessible hot air balloon will be giving rides at the Augusta Ranch Elementary Schools at 9430 E. Neville in Gilbert, Arizona. The balloon rides are free, but pre-registration is recommended. The wheelchair passenger and up to two family members or attendants will be taken up approximately 100 feet in the air for a brief ride. Only erect wheelchairs can fit in the balloon. Make a day of it and stay for face painting, learn and visit with working dogs, therapy horses, tours on a city bus, and some other very exciting surprises! October, 2003 - Arizona - Employment Benefits and Work Incentives Workshops

Arizona Bridge to Independent Living will be offering several workshops aimed at educating consumers about how employment will affect their cash and medical benefits. They offer separate workshops for each type of benefit: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) because each program has different rules and different work incentives. Following is a schedule of workshops for each benefit program:

All Advocacy presentations are free. Participants must RSVP with David Carey of ABIL at (602) 296-0523. Presentations/Workshops without a minimum of 4 participants are subject to cancellation. For accommodations or alternative format please call in advance. For ABIL van transportation please call as soon as possible. ABIL requests a $1+ donation (each way) for ABIL van transportation. Consumers must be at least 18 years of age or be their own legal guardian.
