New Horizons Un-Limited Inc.TASH, a national non-profit organization working for equity, opportunity and inclusion for people with disabilities, will be hosting their annual conference on November 9-12, 2005 at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee. The conference provides a forum for individuals with disabilities, families, researchers, educators, scholars, and others to work towards social and systems reform. In addition to the three keynote speakers, the conference also features workshops which focus on inclusion in education and employment. They also offer full day Saturday Institutes which include such discussions as advocacy, effective workplace support and raising and nurturing children with disabilities, among others. The National Organization for Rare Diseases will be hosting their annual conference on Friday, September 30, 2005 -Sunday, October 2, 2005 at the Hilton Crystal City at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. An optional Capitol Hill visit is scheduled for September 29th. The theme will be Access to Medical Care: Navigating Medicare, Medicaid, & Private Insurance. General sessions will focus on issues related to medical coverage and access to care. There are also workshops led by teachers, psychologists and others who can address quality-of-life issues. The Alliance for Full Participation is working towards a common vision that people with developmental disabilities and their families realize the promise of integration, productivity, independence and quality of life choices. On Thursday and Friday, September 22-23, 2005, the Alliance for Full Participation will host a 2005 Summit: Many Voices, One Vision in Washington D.C. to bring together those committed to making the promises inherent in the Developmental Disabilities Act for Americans a reality. Over twelve hundred individuals are expected to attend to help craft a new strategic policy and social agenda in support of full participation, and to carry that agenda forward in their communities following the Summit. To do so, each state will form a team composed of self-advocates, family members, policy makers, providers, researchers and community builders. The National Down Syndrome Society, in partnership with the National Association of Down Syndrome will be hosting its annual national conference July 7-10, 2005 at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to learning the latest information on education, research and advocacy, you will have unique opportunities to “Imagine” the possibilities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. The Spina Bifida Association of America (SBAA) will be hosting its 32nd Annual National Conference June 26-29, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Conference will offer the most current information about the latest advances in orthopedics, urology, neurosurgery and neuropsychology, as well as adult health, psychosocial and family issues, employment, sex, depression, latex allergy, self-determination and learning disabilities. The conference registration fee is $325 per person for SBAA members and $350 for non-members. Scholarships are available to SBAA members unable to afford the conference fee. Five leading disability organizations have joined together to host "Partnership for Empowerment," an annual disability policy seminar to be held from February 28, 2005 through March 2, 2005 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC. This year's seminar will provide you with all the information you need to communicate your needs to members of the U.S. Congress. By attending this seminar you will learn more about Social Security, Medicaid, welfare reform, and the Workforce Investment Act. You will also have an opportunity to gain hands-on advocacy experience while meeting personally with your elected officials on Capitol Hill. The 21st Annual Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities is scheduled for February 28th and March 1, 2005 at the Sheraton in Waikiki, Hawaii. The event draws participants from the U.S. Mainland, Alaska, Pacific Islands Nations, Japan, Australia, the Philippines and numerous other countries. Persons with disabilities, family members, researchers, and service providers join policy-makers and nationally recognized speakers in the field of disabilities to participate in the Pac Rim Conference to learn from each other and to share resources for communities to fully accept and support persons with disabilities.
