National

Affordable Housing Online is a website dedicated to making the latest and most up-to-date affordable housing data available to the low-income community. Their directory currently contains more than 2,000,000 affordable apartments in all 50 States and every major city in the United States. Their website also features information on the Federal Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. For more information, visit this website.

National Accessible Apartment Clearinghouse (NAAC) maintains a national database of accessible apartments with more than 46,000 units in over 155 major metropolitan cities. There is no fee for any services provided by NAAC. You can visit their website, call 1-800-421-1221, or e-mail clearinghouse@naahq.com.

Wheelchair Access Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing information on accessibility to the disabled community. Their website offers a list of accessible homes and apartments available throughout the United States. There is also an opportunity to list homes and apartments for sale or rent. Disability Guide offers a listing of accessible apartments available throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Each listing offers a brief description of the accessible features as well as contact information for each.


State Listings

Arizona

Tucson House is an apartment complex managed by The City of Tucson Community Services Department. The complex offers studio and one-bedroom apartments for the elderly and individuals with disabilities. Rent, including utilities, will not exceed 30% of the tenant's income. Connecticut

New Horizons Village, located in Unionville, Connecticut, is a 68-unit apartment complex designed for people who have severe physical disabilities. Apartments include roll-under counters, sinks and stove, roll-in showers, tilt-down mirrors, central air-conditioning and all appliances are included. Tenants manage their own lives in a supportive and fully accessible setting. A financial assistance program is available to qualified tenants. For more information, call (860) 673-8893.


Minnesota

Housing Link offers information on affordable rental housing available in the Seven County Metropolitan Area of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. They offer the Housing Referral Service (HRS), which informs low-income renters of metro-wide housing opportunities for which they may be eligible. Their website also features excerpts from the following print directories: A Directory of Subsidized Residences, A Directory of Income and Rent Specific Rental and Your Guide to Transitional Housing. New Hampshire

North Country Independent Living serves adults with acquired brain injuries with their Supported Apartment Living Program. The apartments are located in North Conway, New Hampshire, a four-season resort community. A variety of services are offered to apartment residents, all aimed to increase an individual's ability to live independently. For more information, call (888) 400-6245.


New York

Snow Belt Housing Company, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to seeing that all Lewis County residents are able to afford a safe and decent place to live. In addition to offering housing assistance programs, they also manage several apartment units. High Falls and Whitton Place Apartments are open to both low-income elderly and handicapped residents of Lewis County. There is a waiting list for entry. Oregon

HousingConnections.org is an on-line searchable database offering listings for affordable, accessible and special needs housing in the Portland Metro area. They also offer a referral phone line at (503) 823-4141.


Washington

New Sign Housing Resource Group, a private, non-profit organization, offers affordable housing to low-to-medium income people in the downtown Seattle area. HRG sets rents at an amount that is affordable to individuals and families, which is approximately 30% of their gross income. Tenant rental assistance provided by Section 8 is also welcome. Wisconsin

St. Clare Management, is a not-for-profit agency offering accessible apartment residences to people with disabilities on limited incomes. Apartments are located throughout Milwaukee County and feature elevators, lowered cabinet and counters, roll through kitchens, roll in showers, grab bars and adjustable showers, automatic entry door openers, telephone operated intercom and off-site fire alarm monitoring.
