Access Technology Computer Redistribution Program:
Wisconsin Residents with Disabilities
It is our mission, via our Access Technology Initiative, to increase access to computer technology among our community members with disabilities. We do so by distributing refurbished computers to Southeastern Wisconsin Residents with disabilities and their families.
What kind of equipment is available?
All of the computers are previously used and refurbished. Most of the computers have Pentium 4 era processors and will come loaded with Windows XP Professional and the Open Office Freeware Suite, which includes a word processing program, spreadsheet program, presentation program and drawing program. The computer also comes with a standard CRT monitor as well as a mouse and keyboard.
A limited number of laptops are available to those who are currently enrolled in higher education or to those who have significant mobility impairments.
The Individual will be responsible for obtaining the following equipment and services:
- Office Furniture (desks, chairs, etc.)
- Printer, Scanner, Speakers, etc.
- Internet Service Provider
What kind of support is available?
In addition to the placement of computer equipment, NHU will offer the following:
- Access to the NHU Online Access Technology Resource Center, which offers computer training and troubleshooting tips
- Access to NHU's IT Help Desk and Computer Repair Technicians
- One year of free repair service
- In the event a technical problem arises with the granted technology up to one year after the grant date, a replacement computer will be furnished "as available."
