About Us
New Horizons Un-Limited Inc. (NHU) is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3, organization based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We began in December of 1994 as a small website and have grown into a service organization serving thousands of people impacted by lifelong disability annually via our internationally accessed website and local community initiatives.
We are an impassioned organization, with a staff whole-heartedly dedicated to seeing that all people, no matter their ability may have access to all that life has to offer. Each employee and volunteer brings unique personal and professional perspective and insight. The talents of our staff have greatly lent to the successful growth of New Horizons Un-Limited throughout our 10-year existence.
Our Chairman and founder of NHU, has years of professional and personal experience in working to improve the lives of people with disabilities. He has been very active in promoting Wisconsin's disability community for many years and has collaborated with various organizations and community projects in forwarding a vision to provide access to life opportunities to people with disabilities.
Vision and Mission
Our Vision
We envision a world in which all people with disabilities, willing and able, may fully contribute to our society without the daily physical and perceptual barriers that now prevent them to do so. Through life-long learning and self-determination people with disabilities can take control of their lives and challenge the perceptions that have limited their participation in our communities.
our workplaces and our lives will not be an exception, but an expectation.
Our Mission
It is the mission of New Horizons Un-Limited to make information and life experiences accessible to individuals with lifelong disabilities. Since 1994 we have been providing access to informational and technological tools to ensure that all people, no matter their ability may have access to all that life has to offer.
New Horizons Un-Limited (NHU) has two basic goals:
- To make accessible to the disabled the opportunity to experience the beauty and wonder of life with dignity as an equal member of society.
- To bring society to respect, value and welcome the disabled into the community at large and accept the participation of the disabled in all the infinite experiences of daily living.
To achieve our goals…
- We have created an on-line resource to make information on the many issues of daily living accessible.
- We have created a network to make the sharing of daily living experiences possible and to create a virtual community where individuals can support each other by sharing found solutions to common problems.
- We have established, via community partnerships, computer training programs to make technology accessible to people with disabilities.
- We have established a computer distribution program in cooperation with our business partners.
- We have developed partnerships with local museums to create greater access to The Arts and other cultural experiences.
- We have sponsored the construction of accessible cabins in state parks to allow individuals to enjoy nature and the outdoor experience.
- We have sponsored sails for the disabled on a tall ship to challenge both mind and body.
